The appointment begins with a one-hour screening consultation, which forms the first stage of the assessment itself. This helps establish whether a full diagnostic autism assessment is clinically indicated. Where it is, we continue directly into the remainder of the assessment on the same day. Where it isn't, the process can conclude at this stage, avoiding the cost and time commitment of a full assessment.

The assessment combines a detailed clinical interview, an ADOS-2 assessment, and information from an informant where appropriate. Together, these help build a comprehensive understanding of your developmental history, current experiences, strengths, and difficulties.

Before you leave, you'll receive detailed verbal feedback and have the opportunity to ask questions. Whether the assessment results in a diagnosis or not, we'll discuss the findings, the reasons behind them, and any recommended next steps.

A comprehensive diagnostic report, including personalised recommendations and next steps, is usually provided within one week of your assessment.

If you receive a diagnosis, additional support is available, including extended feedback sessions, family consultations, and tailored post-diagnostic guidance. These services are optional and arranged separately from the assessment.
